BEFORE THE SUPPORT

Lakshmi belonged to a modest rural family dependent on irregular wage labour. With limited income and no access to formal banking services, she relied on informal loans from money lenders during emergencies. The high interest burden and lack of financial knowledge made it difficult to meet household needs and plan for the future.

SUPPORT FROM WELDON TRUST

Through WELDON Trust, Lakshmi joined the Sevvanthi Women SHG and received training on savings, financial literacy, bookkeeping and banking. The Trust strengthened the SHG, promoted regular savings, and facilitated linkages with banks and financial institutions. Continuous mentoring and capacity building helped her develop confidence in financial management and access to formal financial services.

OUTCOME AND IMPACT

Today, Lakshmi has adopted regular savings and improved financial planning. She no longer depends on informal money lenders and is able to contribute actively to household financial decisions. Her participation in the SHG has enhanced her confidence, leadership and social standing in the community. She now inspires other women to join Self-Help Groups and pursue financial independence.

Lakshmi’s journey is a true example of how financial inclusion and collective empowerment can transform lives and build brighter futures.
